Some Christmas gift guides assume Dad has had a lovely old time this year.
This is not that guide.
(If you're looking for that kinda guide, check out my post last year for Christmas gifts for dad 2024)
This is for the dads who've had the sort of year you don't want to post on Instagram. The ones who've spent too much time in waiting rooms, had grown-up conversations they never wanted to have, juggled money stress, health stuff, kid worries and the kind of emotional admin that makes your brain feel like a dial-up modem or nails on a chalk board.
🎉 It's been that kind of year here too! 🎉
The kids have absolutely powered through it all – tired, wobbly, overwhelmed at times, but we're still trying to find some joy in the wreckage.
We even pulled off one properly magical day at Lapland in Ascot: fake snow, sparkly lights, the whole thing. I haven't been ice-skating in nearly two decades, but for a moment, the kids and I were happy. The grown-up context around it was complicated, but watching their faces light up, even for a few hours, was worth every bit of stress of the 9 hour round trip.

And if I'm honest, while the big part of me wants a calmer, kinder 2026, there's another part that just wants:
- The house to be peaceful for five minutes
- A decent nap
- And maybe a box of very good fudge I don't have to share
- To finish my dad joke book
So this Christmas 2025 gift guide for dads is not about finding another "best novelty golf mug under £10". It's for those of you searching for a gift for the dad that that you want to say: "You've had a rough one. This is for you Dad."
And if you can't stretch for a gift, then why not check my Christmas jokes post from last year.

Quick Answer: Best Christmas 2025 Gifts for Dads Who've Had a Rubbish Year

The best Christmas gifts for dads who've had a tough year in 2025 are:
- Comfort gifts like fudge, loungewear, weighted blankets and decent slippers
- Relief gifts such as massage guns, physio sessions and noise-cancelling headphones
- Daily upgrades including good coffee, better mugs, simple skincare and planners
- Experience gifts for 2026, like nights away, gig tickets or workshops
- Emotional gifts from the kids, such as "reasons we love Dad" jars and photo books
- A last-minute dad joke book or other small gift that taps into his sense of humour
First Things First: Big Fudge Energy 🍫
Before we get into gadgets and "proper" presents, I need to give a massive shout out to The Finest Fudge Co (gifted product).

They reached out via Instagram and sent me something to drown my sorrows (inevitably it'll end up in the kids' stockings, but that's a win from me too).
They make small-batch, handmade fudge in the UK – stirred and poured by hand – with a frankly dangerous amount of flavours and build-your-own boxes.

There were days this year where dinner was basically:
- Water
- A side of misery
- Me standing at the kitchen counter wondering what on earth just happened
And honestly? I could have done with the fudge.
If you're buying for a dad who has been through it this year:
- Build-your-own fudge box – Pick his favourite flavours and write a daft note in the card:
"For emergency use only. Break open when life is being an idiot." - Stocking stuffers – Smaller pieces or mixed boxes he doesn't have to share with the kids (unless he wants to, obviously).
- "From the kids to Dad" box – Let the kids choose the flavours and design a homemade label.
It's a simple thing, but a properly indulgent food gift can feel like a little hug in a box – especially from a brand that's cheered you on when life's been kicking you in the shins.
How To Buy For a Dad Who's Had Enough
If Dad has had a nightmare year, the best Christmas gifts usually hit one (or more) of these… and maybe skip the booze if it's been particularly stressful. I'm practically teetotal now, but I did enjoy a Westmalle Tripel or two over the Christmas period.
- Comfort: Warm, soft, tasty, soothing.
- Relief: Takes a chore away, eases pain, saves time.
- Recognition: Shows you've noticed what he's been through.
- Hope: Gives him something to look forward to in 2026.
The good news is, you don't need to spend an awful lot on comfort-related gifts. A lot of the best Christmas gifts for dads this year are cosy, practical and a bit indulgent – think food, little luxuries he'd never buy for himself, and tech or sundries that genuinely help (I got myself some stick-on cable holders and I'm tripping over cables about 25% less).
Here we go.
Comfort Gifts For the Dad Who's Done

There was a moment this year – somewhere between crisis phone calls, meeting the Scorpions, life admin and that Lapland trip in Ascot – where I realised what I actually wanted for Christmas wasn't anything flashy.
I wanted:
- A quiet house
- A nap that lasted longer than 14 minutes
- And something ridiculously indulgent to eat once the kids were in bed
That's why the comfort section of any Christmas gifts for dads 2025 list is non-negotiable for me. Think fudge (sorted thanks to the wonderful people at The Finest Fudge Co), stupidly soft loungewear, a weighted blanket, proper slippers – stuff that turns collapsing on the sofa, or the mattress on the floor of your office (thanks, Simba), into a marginally better sleep, instead of just passing out at 5am after night terrors in your daywear.
This category is all about making Dad feel human again.

Gifts That Say "I See You" (From the Kids and Family)
If this year has involved separation, arguments, illness or just emotional exhaustion, the most powerful gifts might not be the expensive ones.

Not the joke kind (well, maybe one or two). Real ones like:- "One full lie-in"
- "One tech-free walk together"
- "One evening where we watch your choice without complaining"
- Photo book of the good bits
Even in a trash year, there were tiny wins and moments. Put them in a book. Show him that, even in the mess, he was there, he showed up, and it mattered. - Letter from you
If you're co-parenting or on rocky ground, even a short note acknowledging how hard it's been and that you see his effort can land harder than any gadget.
The Wildly Last-Minute Wildcard: The Dad Joke Book
Right. Let's talk about the Dad Joke book project.
At some point, in a moment of optimism (or chaos), I decided to create "The Best Dad Jokes You've Never Heard" – a whole book of dad jokes, doodles and general nonsense to make you groan.
And then life… happened.
So, yes, this is me publicly shaming myself into finishing it. The plan is:
- 365-ish jokes (because of course it became a massive project)
- Split into sections
- Packed with the worst groan-inducing one-liners I can come up with
If you're reading this close to Christmas 2025 and the book is actually finished:
- Please consider this your sign to grab the most last-minute dad gift known to man.
- It's perfect as a stocking filler, Secret Santa, or "I saw this and it reminded me of you because you're an absolute menace with puns."
If you're reading this and it's still not done by the 15th…
Feel free to send me a passive-aggressive message along the lines of:
"I was going to buy your book for my Dad but I guess you ruined my Christmas too!"
Accountability, right?
If You Are the Dad Who's Had a Rubbish Year
If you've landed on this post shopping "for yourself from yourself" (no judgement, I've done it), here's your permission slip:
- Buy the nice fudge.
- Buy the comfy thing.
- Book the massage or the night away if you can swing it.
- Ask for what you actually want instead of saying "I'm fine".
Because if you've dragged yourself through a brutal 2025 and kept little humans alive, worked, cared, worried, shown up and kept going when you honestly wanted to crawl under a duvet and stay there… you are absolutely allowed some joy.
Wrapping It Up (Badly, With Too Much Tape, Obviously)
Christmas 2025 doesn't magically fix a hard year.
But the right gifts can do something small and important:
- Tell a tired dad he's seen.
- Give him comfort when he finally stops on Christmas night.
- Offer him a tiny bit of hope for next year.
Whether it's:
- A carefully chosen gadget,
- His favourite snack or drink,
- A book of terrible dad jokes (watch this space),
- Or a simple handwritten note from the kids,
The message is the same:
"You made it. You're loved. You deserve nice things."
This is me signing off for the year. I desperately wanted to do another series of Christmas posts like last year, but I've been holding the fort instead.
And if you're really in need, please do reach out for help. The Samaritans are there 24/7, and they've been a lifeline for me when the person I thought would be just… wasn't.
Talking to someone who actually listens can make all the difference.
So here's to you all. Merry Christmas.
Dad x
